Outdoor activities abound, with the Dikkop Trail providing a 13 km circular walk through dunes and fynbos, horse riding available at Thandeka Stables, and paintball facilities at the Melkbosstrand Country Club. Noteworthy attractions in the vicinity include the West Coast National Park, Koeberg Nature Reserve and Mountain Bike Route, and the scenic Cape to Namibia highway (N7) commencing from Melkbosstrand.

Whether seeking a tranquil beach holiday, an adventure-filled getaway, or the perfect mix of both, Melkbosstrand stands as an ideal destination with its historical charm, natural beauty, and diverse array of activities.

Melkbosstrand, situated just 26 km from Cape Town‘s city center, stands as the inaugural village on the West Coast, gracing the shores of the mighty Atlantic Ocean. A vital component of the Blaauwberg municipality, this coastal haven beckons with its enchanting wide, sandy beaches, providing the perfect canvas for leisurely strolls that unveil panoramic views of Table Mountain and the iconic Robben Island.

Distinguished by its official status within the Blaauwberg municipality, Melkbosstrand boasts some of the most picturesque beaches in the region. These shores not only offer safe swimming opportunities but also create an ideal playground for water sports enthusiasts. Kite surfing, windsurfing, crayfishing, and boating thrive under the azure skies, allowing visitors to indulge in an array of aquatic adventures. Moreover, Melkbosstrand is renowned for hosting spectacular sunsets that paint the sky with vibrant hues.

Beyond its coastal charm, Melkbosstrand is celebrated for its delectable seafood offerings. The village is adorned with an assortment of restaurants, while two expansive shopping centers cater to the needs of both locals and visitors. The culinary scene is complemented by easy access to a myriad of attractions, including golf courses, the thrilling Ratanga Junction amusement park, the Grand West Casino, Canal Walk shopping precinct, and, during the appropriate season, the resplendent wildflowers of the West Coast.

Melkbosstrand derives its name from the majestic milkwood trees that flourish north of the town, adding a touch of natural grandeur to the landscape. Beyond the coastal allure, the village stands in proximity to the esteemed Durbanville winelands and the majestic mountains of the Boland. Nature enthusiasts can explore the Koeberg Nature Reserve, a nearby haven that unveils fynbos-rich walking paths, meandering through breathtaking cliffs, dunes, and pristine beaches. This ecological gem promises an immersive experience, allowing visitors to connect with the rich biodiversity that defines the West Coast region.

Melkbosstrand is right next to Tableview, where there are many small shops and numerous, excellent restaurants and pubs. Only a few minutes away is the new “Bayside” shopping center with various leisure and shopping facilities (Kinocenter etc.). Cape Town is only 15 minutes by car from Melkbosstrand. From Melkbosstrand you can see Cape Town and the Table Mountain from one of the most frequently photographed sites – the foaming blue-green sea in the foreground.

A further visit is the wide sandy beaches and the dunes behind, which are very popular with water sportsmen and walkers. Unfortunately the water is too cold for bathing. Particularly at the weekend, the sheltered Bay of Melkbosstrand is an Eldorado for surfers and kite surfers. Even sun worshippers can get their money’s worth here, but beware of the sun.

In good weather the Melkbosstrand beach is definitely worth a trip. In the summer months the Tafelberg is illuminated at night, which is also a beautiful motif. Milnerton is the oldest of the suburbs on the northern bay. It is a pure residence with a beautiful, old part with pretty houses and a lot of green. The famous Milnerton Golf Course, which is just behind the dunes, is famous for its lagoon with numerous waterbirds.
